A planet is in detriment when it is in the sign opposite the one it rules, making its energy harder to express.
Challenging Placements
A planet is said to be in 'detriment' when it is located in the zodiac sign directly opposite the sign it rules. For example, since Mars rules Aries, it is in detriment in Libra. This doesn't mean the planet is 'bad,' but its natural energy may feel restricted or require more conscious effort to express effectively.
